Year 11 - Dance

Course Description

Year 11 dance provides an exceptional opportunity for creative-minded students to explore both practical and theoretical elements of dance. This course provides students with skills and understanding of a range of dance styles through integrating choreography, performance, and analysis of dance. Students will utilise knowledge gained through previous dance experience to apply to a wider range of opportunities with greater depth. They will explore what it means to choreograph imaginative sequences whilst also refining their dance technique and performance. Throughout the course, students will engage in various workshops from external professional dance companies and partake in the annual dance camp run by industry experts. Sequences from across the year will be performed at the annual dance showcase Aspire.

 Students will:

  • Develop practical knowledge of various dance genres and styles.
  • Explore and use choreographic processes to create their own choreographic work.
  • View, interpret, and respond to dance performances.
  • Learn and use dance vocabulary to perform a variety of dance sequences.
  • Perform in choreographed group work, with an emphasis on ensemble skills which they will perform at the annual 'Aspire Dance Showcase'.
