How to select my courses

Course selection for 2025 is now closed
New students please email [email protected] with your selections (including sports selections for years 7-10)
Current students email your Head of Year
Year 6 going into Year 7 and Year 7 going into Year 8 instructions
- You will choose up to three different sports to participate in throughout the year
- Click "Sport Selection" on the left hand menu to choose these sports
Year 8 going into Year 9 instructions
- Year 9 students select 6 courses for options, and 2 for reserve courses.
- Language courses are full year and take up 2 course slots. All other subject options are half year and take up 1 course slot.
- The Year 9 option courses are:
- Agriculture and horticulture
- Art
- Chinese
- Commerce
- Dance
- Design and visual communication
- Digital technology
- Drama
- Fashion design
- Food and hospitality
- French
- Human performance
- Japanese
- Music
- Musical theatre
- Product design
- Spanish
- Te Reo Maaori

Year 9 going into Year 10 instructions
- Year 10 students have 3 course slots left for options, and 2 for reserve courses.
- All Year 10 subjects are full year.
- The Year 10 option courses are:
- Agriculture and horticulture
- Art
- Chinese
- Commerce
- Dance
- Design and visual communication
- Digital technology
- Drama
- Fashion design
- Food and nutrition
- French
- Human performance
- Japanese
- Music
- Product design: metal
- Product design: wood
- Spanish
- Te Reo Maaori

Year 10 going into Year 11 instructions
- Physical education and health is compulsory, this has already been selected for you.
- English and mathematics are compulsory.
- There are different types of courses at this level. Read the descriptions carefully and show your interest by selecting the one you think is right for you. The Head of Faculty approves entry to these courses and course placement.
- Year 11 students have 4 course slots left, and 2 for reserve courses.

Year 11 going into Year 12 instructions
- All Year 12 students must first select if they wish to take NCEA or International Baccalaureate. Go to 'All Courses' and the course named 'Year 12 and 13: I wish to study NCEA or the International Baccalaureate' then choose the relevant course.
- You must click the green "Select as one of my Courses" button for either NCEA or International Baccalaureate before proceeding with course selection.
- NCEA:
- After selecting the NCEA pathway, follow the instructions on the page to select physical education and health, then the appropriate English course. You must take these two subjects.
- Year 12 students have 5 course slots left, and 2 for reserve courses.
- International Baccalaureate:
- After selecting 'International Baccalaureate' you need to select the first four courses in this order:
- IB core classes
- Choose a 'language and literature' course
- Choose a 'mathematics' course
- Choose a 'learned language' course
- Select 3 more courses from the remaining faculties - found in the faculty named 'International Baccalaureate'
- Do not select a second 'language and literature' or 'mathematics'
- You must also select 1 reserve course.
- After selecting 'International Baccalaureate' you need to select the first four courses in this order:
Year 12 going into Year 13 instructions
- All Year 13 students must first select if they wish to take NCEA or continue to study the International Baccalaureate Diploma. Go to "all courses" and the course named 'Year 12 and 13: I wish to study NCEA or the International Baccalaureate' then choose the relevant course.
- You must click the green 'Select as one of my Courses' button for either NCEA or International Baccalaureate before proceeding with course selection.
- NCEA:
- After selecting the NCEA pathway, follow the instructions on the page to select physical education and health.
- Year 13 students have 5 course slots left, and 2 for backup courses.
- International Baccalaureate:
- After selecting 'International Baccalaureate', go to 'Learning Areas' and select the faculty named 'International Baccalaureate'.
- You will see your IB courses at the top of the page, select each of these.
I want to take a course but don't meet the prerequisites
If you think a course is right for you, but you can't select it, click the 'Request Exemption' button and write a short description of why you wish to take this course. The relevant Head of Faculty will evaluate this and make a decision.
