Level 3 - Art Photography
Course Description
This course will provide the opportunity for students to extend skills and practical knowledge through further exploration of photographic conventions and techniques. Students will also gain further knowledge of the DSLR camera, Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop skills. This contributes to a more in-depth understanding of how to develop a body of work in such a way as to systematically clarify, generate and refine ideas towards the production of a portfolio of work communicating their personal proposition.
Through this course, students will also build on their understanding of subject specific vocabulary and terminology. They will explore photographic genres and established practice that is of personal interest. Through research methods, they will develop analytical skills and be able to identify the conceptual elements of the photographic image. This places the students in a position to not only produce photography of a high standard but also to be able to critique their work with insight and understanding.
Students are advised to discuss with their classroom teacher the opportunity to submit work for the Scholarship photography assessment.

Pathway
The world is increasingly influenced by our interaction with the photographic image and our understanding and interpretation of what it is communicating to us as the viewer. Career pathways in the realm of visual art continue to grow through the advertising industry, fashion industry, journalism, filmmaking, animation, website design, television and social media. Tertiary study links to these and other creative industries and is a pathway that becomes available to students of this subject.
The skills developed through the exploration and understanding of photographic techniques, and the critical thinking that is encouraged, makes for valuable contributions to how we become visually literate, willing to be open to ideas and to creatively problem solve in any professional context.
This also contributes to an inquisitive individual, whose pathway through tertiary education is enhanced beyond the specifics of their study, by being aware of the part creativity can play in making a contribution to their community and the wider global community.
In a wider context, all art subjects enhance fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, problem-solving skills, lateral thinking, complex analysis, and critical thinking skills. The ability to work collaboratively, and demonstrate creativity, connectivity and communication are highly desired transferable skills enhancing many chosen careers.
