Year 11 - Mathematics - Algebra and Trigonometry

Course Description

This course is most suitable for students who enjoy the challenge of applying algebraic and trigonometric techniques across all mathematical topics. This course seeks to enable students to:

  • Think abstractly, creatively, critically, strategically and logically
  • Develop a variety of approaches for problem-solving using algebraic equations, graphical modelling and trigonometric techniques
  • Interpret, analyse and communicate statistical information and simulations in a society that is technologically orientated
  • Enjoy the intellectual challenge that leads to further inquiry
  • Enhance the mathematical tools, skills, understanding, and attitudes required in future careers


Pre-requisites

Entry is at the discretion of the Head of Faculty. A competent performance across the mathematics curriculum strands at Year 10 level, including Securely at the expected level grades in algebra and have passed the numeracy corequisite assessment.

$50 - consumables and workbooks
A graphics calculator is required

Pathway

Further study and careers in mathematics are in many sectors, such as commerce, science, engineering, medicine, architecture, government departments, information management, quality improvement, and insurance. Most industries regularly require data analysis and research.

Assessment Information

Each topic taught is assessed through an examination, tests and/or assignments.
