11PHY

Year 11 - Physics

Course Description

The study of physics leads to an understating of the nature, behavior and properties of matter and energy.

This course will give students a base understanding and curiosity in the following key areas of physics:

  • Mechanics
  • Electricity and magnetism
  • Waves
  • Heat
  • Nuclear physics

Students will begin to develop mathematical and problem-solving skills, in order to understand and model the physical world around them. The course will also develop literacy skills, so that students can effectively describe and explain concepts in physics.

Practical experimental skills are developed throughout the topics, culminating in practical reports developed for a range of investigations.

Course objectives:

  • To develop an understanding of physics concepts
  • To develop problem solving and experimental skills
  • To apply concepts of physics to everyday applications
  • To prepare students for the study of physics at higher levels

Pre-requisites

Good results in year 10 science with Achieved grades in the physics topic tests and the end-of-year examination. Students taking this course cannot take year 11 science.
