Year 9 - Dance
Course Description
This course is an excellent opportunity for students to engage with the world of dance. We welcome students of all dance skill levels where they will be introduced to performance, dance creation, and reflective activities. Students will develop their dance proficiencies by being exposed to various genres of dance, as well as gaining experience through practical activities. Students may be provided an opportunity to present their choreographies at the annual dance Choreography Evening.
Throughout the course, students will:
- Develop interpersonal skills and social competencies
- Establish fundamental knowledge and skills in dance creation
- Gain an understanding of a variety of international dance styles and genres
- Be able to watch and experience a professional live dance performance
Students intending to enroll in dance are encouraged to participate in the co-curricular dance program at St Peter’s.
This is a half-year course and takes up 1 option line.
Pre-requisites
There are no pre-requisites for this course.
Course Specific Costs
$150 (approximately) - The course may require the purchase of tickets to one professional show (this may include travel to Auckland) and costs for any extra workshops or trips.
Pathway
This course provides a pathway for students to move toward tertiary study and careers in dance as well as supporting industries. The dance pathway also provides relevant lifelong skills for students that complement any profession or career that they undertake.
