Year 11 - Visual Art
Course Description
This course offers students the opportunity to investigate and develop artworks reflecting their experiences, culture, interests, and personal histories. Students will experience and extend skills in a wide range of wet and dry media, broadening their knowledge of photography, printmaking, painting, sculpture, drawing and art history.
A thorough understanding of basic art elements including composition, shading, form, mark making, colour, space, line, and balance will be developed This will grow their understanding of the links between the generation, development, and clarification of ideas as they develop a body of artworks.
Creative imagination and critical facility will be identified and extended as students communicate meaning through the development of ideas, techniques, artworks, and extensions across media.
A wide range of assessments will be offered including practical projects, engaging discussions and critiques, a presentation of artworks, research, and an exhibition showcasing skills and ideas.
Students will learn how to engage with their own and others’ artworks on their creative journey. They will reflect, consider, and share verbal and non-verbal communication within artistic contexts.
Students will build a comprehensive body of artworks that demonstrate their growth and understanding and will be equipped with the skills and knowledge to continue their artistic journey with confidence.
Pre-requisites
No prerequisites, however it is an advantage to have studied Year 9 and/or Year 10 art.

Pathway
Career pathways in the realm of visual art continue to grow. This course provides a direct pathway into tertiary art and design courses with career opportunities for artists and designers through galleries, the design and advertising industry, fashion industry, journalism, filmmaking, animation, website design, television and social media.
With the growth in websites, international connectivity and artist self-marketing, a multitude of individuals are able to make their living in creative ways that were previously rarely possible.
In a wider context, all art subjects enhance fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, problem-solving skills, lateral thinking, complex analysis, and critical thinking skills. The ability to work collaboratively, and demonstrate creativity, connectivity and communication are highly desired transferable skills enhancing many chosen careers.
This also contributes to an inquisitive individual, whose pathway through tertiary education is enhanced beyond the specifics of their study, by being aware of the part creativity can play in making a contribution to their community and the wider global community.
Assessment Information
This course consists of a range of assignments which contribute to the following assessment criteria1 Research component 10%
Students will grow an understanding of links between artists' established practices in relation to the development of their own artworks.
2 Presentation component 25%
Students will learn to speak about their art, write an artist statement and engage in a critique.
3 Skills 40%
Students will learn, grow, extend, and apply skills and processes in a range of media. Assessment will be an average of all grades from skills based
assignments.
4 Exhibition 25%
Students will select and curate an exhibition of selected artworks
5 Personal Project Included in skills assessment
Students will have an opportunity to propose a personal project in any media building and extending on skills learnt through the course.
