Level 2 - Agricultural and Horticultural Science
Course Description
This course continues to build on students' knowledge of farming practices including: reproductive technologies, agricultural and horticultural concepts that challenge sustainability plus how to mitigate these challenges. Students participate in an investigation looking at the percentage of germination of seeds and continue to gain an understanding of livestock growth and development as well as studying land use in New Zealand.
Course objectives:
- To prepare students for the study of agricultural and horticultural science at higher levels
- To develop practical and problem solving skills
- To develop an interest and appreciation for agricultural and horticultural science
Pre-requisites
Year 11 agricultural and horticultural science would be an advantage.

Pathway
This course leads onto NCEA Level 3 agricultural and horticultural science which is strongly recommended for students considering a career in the food and fiber sectors and/or students undertaking further studies at polytechnic/farming institutions or university. This course will also complement those studying commerce courses and geography as well as those who will pursue a career in the primary industries.

You will be assessed in this course through all or a selection of the standards listed below.
