Level 3 - Theology and Philosophy
Course Description
Continuing our studies of religious beliefs and their application and influence in the world, students will examine ultimate questions around the search for meaning and beliefs in the afterlife.
Students will also further explore the application of religious belief to ethical issues as well as trace the development and growth of specific religious traditions in Aotearoa New Zealand.
As part of this course, students will:
- Develop skills in critical thinking, evaluation, and logical reasoning
- Consider and critique their own beliefs as well as other worldview perspectives
- Evaluate how religious and philosophical principles shape moral and ethical decision-making
- Critically analyse the influence of media, arts, and entertainment on moral and ethical choices

These courses lay the foundation for those students who wish to pursue careers in law, medicine, philosophy and sociology. The study of theology and philosophy provides students with valuable skills that prepare them for an array of careers, including those in politics, international relations, business, public relations, education, and public policy.
Most importantly, students who take this course will have learnt how to think well, reason and weigh up perspectives, engage respectfully with others, and show empathy. All skills that are fundamental not just for the workplace, but for life!
