Level 2 - Music Technology
Course Description
This course aims to further develop an appreciation and understanding of music in view of industry practice in a contemporary format.
The Level 2 music technology course is designed to further develop an understanding and the skills required to use technologies associated with music. Students will have the opportunity to learn how to provide sound enhancement for a performance context as well as develop their performance skills. Students will also explore in-depth how technology is used to create music with an emphasis on both songwriting and digital music-making mediums. Students will also develop their aural abilities, allowing them to train their ears and further develop their overall musicianship. There is also an emphasis on developing collaborative skills through working in bands towards live performances and recording contexts.
Students who have successfully completed this course will:
- Develop performance skills in a group context and understand the function and role of each member in the group
- Build an understanding of how technology can be used to capture, manipulate and produce music in a hi-fidelity format
- Create their own music using technology through the recording of live instruments and sequencing of virtual instruments
- Demonstrate how planning and structuring of tasks can enhance outcomes of this process
Pre-requisites
Students intending to enrol in this course should have completed the Year 11 music course, or should have attained the equivalent of Grade Four in instrumental performance (this includes voice).
Students should show a high level of commitment to the music and performing arts activities offered at St Peter’s. All students must be receiving tuition in their chosen performance instrument (this includes voice).
Other students may gain entry to the course at the discretion of the Head of Faculty: performing arts.
Course Specific Costs
$45 per half hour lesson - Individual instrument lessons are available at the school to support student development on their chosen instrument.
$175 annual fee - co-curricular music groups which allows involvement in all musical groups as part of our performing arts program.
Pathway
This course provides a pathway for students to move toward performance, composition, music technology, and sound reinforcement industries. The music pathway also provides relevant lifelong skills for students that complement any profession or career that they undertake.

You will be assessed in this course through all or a selection of the standards listed below.
