Year 10 - Dance

Course Description

The Year 10 dance course builds on the foundations of the students involved. The year-long program is designed to expose students to a broad range of dance genres and styles. Throughout the year students will further develop their choreographic and dance performance skills by taking part in public performances and our annual dance showcase. Reflective writing skills and analytical thinking in varying dance contexts are also fostered.

During Year 10 students will learn to work collaboratively with their peers while simultaneously developing self-awareness and confidence. Students are also exposed to a variety of dance techniques to equip and prepare them for success in this subject. Throughout the course, students will have opportunities to participate in various dance workshops with industry professionals from New Zealand dance companies. The course is tailored to students who enjoy learning in creative environments with a mixture of practical and theoretical course content.

Students will learn the following:

  • Choreographic tasking and movement creation for group choreographies
  • Choreographic devices, structures, and elements.
  • Contemporary and musical theatre techniques.
  • Cultural dance forms exploration, such as Samoan Sasa
  • Repertoire for performance opportunities at our annual 'Aspire Dance Showcase'.
