Level 2 - Outdoor Education

Course Description

The outdoor education course is designed to teach and test the skills and challenges of life. The students, having completed this course, will have experienced risk, varying environments, appreciation of others, and leadership and success. Outdoor education can produce a person who is self-confident, self-reliant and thus better prepared for all circumstances, and further study in this area.

There are a number of camps and trips included in this course. Students must attend the trips outlined below to achieve the credits on offer. The trips are a key component for the achievement standards taught.

  • Three-day white water kayak camp - Mohaka River/Rangitaiki River
  • Three-day bush camp - National Park 
  • Two-day mountain biking trip - Redwoods Forest, Rotorua
  • One-day first aid course - St Peter’s School

Pre-requisites

To enrol in outdoor education students should have taken 11 Physical Education Studies and have a passion for the outdoors.


Course Specific Costs

$1,500 - $1,800 for all costs related to trips

Assessment Information

This course offers a combination of Achievement Standards and Unit Standards both of which contribute to NCEA. This course offers Endorsement for Level 2 NCEA. This course is internally assessed.
