Level 2 - Art Design
Course Description
Combining digital and hand design skills to create and produce artwork, this course builds skills across multi media and processes with a focus on visual communication. Students will build core skills in advertising media and illustration.
Students will explore creativity and innovation through experimenting with digital programs: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Procreate and visual art methods including printmaking and sculpture from a design perspective.
Applying the design process, they will develop a body of work that consists of professionally crafted documents for print and/or the digital world.
With a focus on individualised learning, art design projects may include:
- advertising: logo, masthead, ticket, business card, website and poster design
- graphic novel: digital art, character design, storyboard, typographic compositions, and poster design
- graphic printmaking
- sculptural product design
Pre-requisites
Previous experience is not essential, however it is an advantage to have studied visual art or digital art in year 11.
Course Specific Costs
$100-$150 - consumables as required
$115 - course fee (includes an annual Adobe license and a pack of design materials)
Pathway
Career opportunities have grown considerably with unprecedented growth in the digital world. This course provides a direct pathway into tertiary art and design courses. Careers may include art director, creative designer, brand identity designer, logo designer, design director, freelance graphic designer, magazine design, web designer, illustrator, multimedia animator, film editor, layout artist and interior spatial designer.
In a wider context, all art subjects enhance fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, problem-solving skills, lateral thinking, complex analysis, and critical thinking skills. The ability to work collaboratively, and demonstrate creativity, connectivity and communication are highly desired transferable skills enhancing many chosen careers.
This also contributes to an inquisitive individual, whose pathway through tertiary education is enhanced beyond the specifics of their study by being aware of the part creativity can play in making a contribution to their community and the wider global community.
