Level 3 - Art Design
Course Description
Students will create a body of work through extending their digital and hand design skills with a focus on an individual design style. Through creativity and innovation, students identify, create, and discuss their own work and how artists have inspired or influenced them.
Students engage critically with wider visual culture and visually communicate ideas through print and digital media, using Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Procreate and visual art methods.
With a focus on individualised learning, art design projects may include:
- Advertising: logo, masthead, ticket, business card, website and poster design
- Illustration: digital art, character design, storyboard, typographic compositions and poster design
- Moving image: character design, three-dimensional modelling, animation
Students are advised to discuss with their classroom teacher the opportunity to submit work for the scholarship design assessment.
Pre-requisites
It is recommended students have successfully completed Level 2 design.
It is recommended that students choose no more than two of the five visual arts subjects offered (art design, painting, printmaking, sculpture and photography). The selection of three will be at the discretion of the Head of Faculty: visual art in consultation with teachers, Head(s) of Years and parents.

Pathway
Career opportunities have grown considerably with unprecedented growth in the digital world. This course provides a direct pathway into tertiary art and design courses. Careers may include art director, creative designer, brand identity designer, logo designer, design director, freelance graphic designer, magazine design, web designer, illustrator, multimedia animator, film editor, layout artist and interior spatial designer.
In a wider context, all art subjects enhance fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, problem-solving skills, lateral thinking, complex analysis, and critical thinking skills. The ability to work collaboratively, and demonstrate creativity, connectivity and communication are highly desired transferable skills enhancing many chosen careers.
This also contributes to an inquisitive individual, whose pathway through tertiary education is enhanced beyond the specifics of their study by being aware of the part creativity can play in making a contribution to their community and the wider global community.
Assessment Information
Students who choose AS 91460 in design may not submit AS 91460 in the fields of painting, printmaking, sculpture or photography.Credit Information
You will be assessed in this course through all or a selection of the standards listed below.
