Level 2 - Music
Course Description
The Level 2 music course builds on the platform for students to enhance their performance skills in both solo and ensemble arrangements. Students will continue to develop their strength on their chosen instrument(s) through a focused and disciplined practice leading to live performance opportunities. The course further develops students' understanding of a broad range of musical styles and the elements of music. The continued focus on building understanding and communication of key concepts will allow students to integrate ideas into original compositions as well as provide insight into substantial musical works. This course offers a more traditional musical learning experience and will provide a range of secure skills to lead to further music study and involvement.
Students who take this course will:
- Become more confident and secure in performance practice and execution
- Develop a secure understanding of musical knowledge including the study of music and musical theory.
- Understand how to use compositional devices to create and structure substantial original composition
- Develop communication and literacy skills that enable students to clearly articulate ideas and understanding
- Develop collaborative skills and understand how to seek challenges in their musical progression
Pre-requisites
Students intending to enrol in this course should have completed the Year 11 music course or should have attained the equivalent of Grade Four in instrumental performance (this includes voice).
Students should also show a high level of commitment to the music and performing arts activities offered at St Peter’s.
All students must be receiving tuition in their performance instrument. Other students may gain entry to the course at the discretion of the Head of Faculty: performing arts.
Course Specific Costs
$100 (approximately) - Theory grade exam (Trinity) to be completed as part of the course. The cost depends on the level.
$45 per half hour lesson - Individual instrument lessons are available at the school to support student development on their chosen instrument.
$175 annual fee - co-curricular music groups which allows involvement in all musical groups as part of our performing arts program.
Pathway
This course provides a pathway for students to move toward performance, composition, music technology, and sound reinforcement industries. The music pathway also provides relevant lifelong skills for students that complement any profession or career that they undertake.

You will be assessed in this course through all or a selection of the standards listed below.
